Cadillac has been working closely with Honda’s luxury offshoot, Acura, to codevelop the Acura ZDX EV – a fully electric crossover that will share quite a few elements with the Cadillac Lyriq. The ZDX EV is getting closer to its reveal, resulting in prototypes of the EV crossover becoming an increasingly more common sight. In fact, Cadillac Society recently spotted two different examples, each revealing key details of its design.
The first prototype Acura ZDX EV appears to be almost production ready, and is completely devoid of camo. However, this particular vehicle has placeholder headlights and taillights, which are not indicative of what will make it to the production model. It’s also missing certain trim pieces. Despite that, it’s easy to see the influence that the Cadillac Lyriq has had on the Acura ZDX EV, as the two crossovers share a similar profile, along with their overall dimensions.
The second Acura ZDX EV prototype sports a body hugging camo wrap, obscuring its styling lines. However, this particular vehicle features production-spec headlights and taillights, unlike the other prototype’s placeholders.
As a reminder, Acura and Cadillac joined forces by way of a strategic alliance back in 2020 with intent to share vehicle platforms. In fact, the ZDX will not be the only vehicle built by Acura’s parent company, Honda, to use Ultium battery and Ultium Drive technology, as the tech will also be found in the forthcoming Honda Prologue. Like the Lyriq, the Prologue and ZDX EVs will ride on the BEV3 platform.
Production of the Acura ZDX is expected to take place alongside the Cadillac Lyriq at the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee. It’s not clear when assembly will kick off, but the Acura ZDX EV is expected to debut in late 2023.
