As the first all-electric vehicle produced by the luxury marque, the Cadillac Lyriq gave Caddy the opportunity to completely rethink how it styles and builds it automobiles. The Lyriq’s interior was designed completely from scratch, with the goal of delivering seamless integration of technology and luxury. And now, the electric crossover has been recognized as a recipient of the 2023 Wards Best 10 Interior and UX award.
Wards focuses on vehicles that it feels “feature outside-the-box design cues and technologies,” and gives high marks for characteristics like electric doors that are able to be opened and closed on demand, impressive high-res infotainment display screens, unique gear selector treatments, “cool graphics” and ambient interior lighting.
The Lyriq is a perfect candidate for the award. Cadillac Society had the opportunity last summer to check the luxury crossover out firsthand, taking an in-depth look at its interior to find out what makes it so special. Things like high-quality materials, a unique, jewel-like switchgear, and a driver-focused infotainment array give the Lyriq an air of excellence. In fact, the Lyriq’s infotainment graphics were developed using the Unreal Engine – an advanced software originally developed for video games.
“For automotive interior and user-experience technology enthusiasts, there’s perhaps been no better era to be alive,” said Christie Schweinsberg, Wards editor and 10 Best Interiors and UX judge. “The creative design cues we’re witnessing are bold and refreshing, and trim materials are unique and eye-catching. Furthermore, the user experience has been elevated by the increasing digitization of the cockpit, with showy animation greeting drivers on displays and ambient lighting taking center stage like never before.”
Among the winners were the BMW i7, Ford F-150 Lightning, Genesis GV60, Hyundai Palisade, Jeep Wagoneer L, Kia Sportage Hybrid, Land Rover Range Rover, Nissan Ariya, and the GMC Hummer EV – another product from Cadillac parent, GM. It’s worth noting that six of the 10 winners, including the Cadillac Lyriq, are electric vehicles, putting the luxury crossover in good company.
