The Cadillac design team has released a sketch of a futuristic Cadillac sports car concept. The sketch was was released last year, but beside our sister site, GM Authority, it has received very little coverage.
Now then, we believe that the vehicle pictured in the sketch isn’t bound for production, but keen-eyed Cadillac fans will notice some design cues that are reminiscent of currently-available Caddys. There’s certainly a hint of the V-Series Blackwing super sedans in the front fascia of the sketch, which boasts a wide and aggressive poise with a prominent carbon fiber front splitter, with a sharp point or “spine” at the center that would seemingly make it perfect for slicing through air.

The two-tiered lighting signatures are present and accounted for, and are reminiscent to those of the 2022 and 2023 CT5-V Blackwing. As spy shots of the upcoming 2024 CT5-V Blackwing showed, the refreshed super sedan will eschew the dual-tier headlight configuration in favor of an uninterrupted, single-piece setup.
Nevertheless, the design sketch also features attractive surface development of the vehicle’s hood, leading the eye toward the multicolor Cadillac crest fashioned in the center of the intricately-crafted grille.
Interestingly, the sketch doesn’t appear to have been drawn up with an electric propulsion system in mind, as there are obvious grille openings to allow for air intake into an internal combustion engine. Moreover, as previously stated, the front fascia closely echoes that of the Blackwing super sedans, as opposed to the battery electric Cadillac Lyriq.

There’s no information regarding when this particular sketch came to be, though it was posted back in 2022. With that in mind, it’s entirely possible that the artist’s vision was used to guide the exterior design language of the CT5-V Blackwing, rather than to provide a direction for a yet unannounced model.

Why do they even bother to display sketches like these ? They never even make them for production so that regular people can even afford them. They may as well put wings and jet engines on them CGI them into space movies. Pure fantasy. Looks nice though.

The goal is to explore the direction they either are already taking the design, or the direction they are thinking in taking the design. In either case, it’s typically for the purpose of collecting feedback on design direction. In fact, that’s really the purpose behind concept cars in the first place. But while concept cars are expensive (need to design them, build them, ship them, reveal them, pay for the reveal venue, have people there, etc.), releasing sketches is much more cost effective and the feedback can be collected by reading the comments.

I agree with Alex. All car manufacturers have concepts cars before it reaches production, so it is a natural process. I have been following cars since 1957 so I know better than you young guys who only see an instant satisfaction instead of looking at the long term.

When every word out of Mary’s mouth is about exclusively electric product, and all the new cars are trucks (or $300,000 unobtanium), it’s hard not to feel toyed with when the company floats an image of a sexy ICE sports car. Just sayin’.
