The 2023 Cadillac XT6 luxury crossover can tow a decent amount of weight, and Cadillac Society is breaking down its towing capacities below.
Let’s first revisit the mechanical specifications of the XT6. Riding on the luxury marque’s C1 platform, the 2023 Cadillac XT6 is offered with a choice of two gasoline engines in the U.S. market. The first is the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 engine (production code LGX), rated at 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. This engine is standard on Premium Luxury and Sport models and is identifiable by the 400 badging on the liftgate.
Meanwhile, the base Luxury model features the turbocharged 2.0L I4 engine (production code LSY), which is rated at 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This model wears the 350T badge on the liftgate. Both engines bolt to Cadillac’s nine-speed automatic transmission. XT6 production takes place at the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee for North American markets.
Getting closer to the towing conversation, the 2023 Cadillac XT6 can be outfitted with the optional Smart Towing Package (production code V92), which includes the following equipment (relevant production codes listed in parentheses):
It should be noted that both the 170-amp alternator and heavy-duty cooling system are standard on the 2023 Cadillac XT6 Sport. Additionally, the Smart Towing Package is only available for the XT6 Premium Luxury and Sport trims, and is not available in conjunction with the base Luxury trim.
Now, with all that in mind, the following table shows the towing capacities of the 2023 Cadillac XT6.
Model | Drivetrain | Turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY | 3.6L V6 LGX | ||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Axle Ratio | Max Trailer Weight (lbs / kg) | Axle Ratio | Max Trailer Weight (lbs / kg) | ||
Luxury | FWD | 3.47 | 1,000 / 454 | - | - |
Luxury | AWD | 3.47 | 1,000 / 454 | - | - |
Premium Luxury | FWD | - | - | 3.47 | 1,000 / 454 |
Premium Luxury with V921 | FWD | - | - | 3.49 | 4,000 / 1,814 |
Premium Luxury | AWD | - | - | 3.47 | 1,000 / 454 |
Premium Luxury with V921 | AWD | - | - | 3.49 | 4,000 / 1,814 |
Sport | AWD | - | - | 3.47 | 1,000 / 454 |
Sport with V921 | AWD | - | - | 3.49 | 4,000 / 1,814 |
Here, we see that the towing capacity for the 2023 Cadillac XT6 when not kitted out with the Smart Towing Package is a relatively measly 1,000 pounds. However, opting for the Smart Towing Package on the Premium Luxury or Sport trim significantly increases the luxury crossover’s towing capacity to 4,000 pounds.
