Back in June, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq was named one of the candidates eligible for the North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle Of The Year (NACTOY) Awards as part of the “Utility Vehicle of the Year” category. Now, as the race continues to tighten, the all-new electric crossover has made it to the semifinals for the annual awards.
The Utility Vehicle segment was narrowed from 30 competitors to just 13 in the semifinals, meaning the Cadillac Lyriq will compete against vehicles like the Audi Q4 e-Tron, Genesis GV60, Honda CR-V, Kia EV6, Mazda CX-50, Rivian R1S and many others. The Utility Vehicle bracket is once again the largest of the three NACTOY categories, as three trucks and 10 cars are also up for awards in their respective segments.
The NACTOY awards are held annually, and eligible candidates are selected by a panel of 50 jurors from a variety of print, online, radio and broadcast media outlets across the U.S. and Canada. Each juror hails from a different publication or media outlet, allowing a diversity of opinion while judging eligible vehicles.
The all-new battery electric Cadillac Lyriq has already proven to be quite a hit thus far. Reservations for the very first units produced, known as Lyriq Debut Edition models, sold out in just under 10 minutes, when reservation banks opened last year. More recently, order books for subsequent 2023 model year vehicles opened on May 19th and also filled up rather quickly. Interested parties are now able to sign up for the waitlist by placing a fully refundable $100 deposit for 2024 models.
Finalists for the NACTOY awards will be announced on November 16th, 2022, and the winners will be chosen on January 11th, 2023.
