Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, has issued a recall for certain units of the 2021 through 2022 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV to address an issue with the third-row seat belt buckle.
The problem: the rivet that retains the buckle to the mounting bracket in the left or right side third-row seat belt buckle assembly may not have been properly formed in affected units of the Escalade.
The hazards: a seat belt with a deformed rivet may not properly restrain a passenger, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
The fix: a Cadillac dealer will inspect the rivet head formation on both the left and right side seat belt buckle assemblies. If a defective rivet is found, the seat belt buckle assembly will be replaced. This procedure will be performed at no cost to the vehicle owner.
Affected components: third-row seat belt buckle assembly.
Affected vehicles:
- 2021-2022 Cadillac Escalade
- 2021-2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV
Number of affected vehicles: Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, has indicated that 484,155 vehicles may be affected by the defective seat belt buckle assembly recall. However, this figure includes not only the Escalade, but also other full-size GM SUVs such as the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban as well as the GMC Yukon.
Next steps: Cadillac will mail notification letters to owners of affected units of the Cadillac Escalade with further instructions on September 26th, 2022. To find out whether a particular Escalade may have this condition, owners can visit my.cadillac.com/recalls and input their vehicle’s VIN.
