First Pre-Production Cadillac Lyriq Rolls Off Assembly Line At Spring Hill

The very first pre-production model of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq has been assembled at the Spring Hill assembly plant in Tennessee.

Mark Reuss, president of Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, shared a photo of the freshly-built all-new luxury electric crossover on LinkedIn. “Our first pre-production Cadillac Lyriq has rolled off the line at Spring Hill, marking a major milestone for the Lyriq program as the team prepares to ship vehicles to customers in a few months,” Reuss writes.

The post notes that this pre-production Lyriq was assembled just 15 months after the luxury marque announced a $2 billion investment at Spring Hill to facilitate the production of fully electric vehicles. “Our teams have worked tirelessly on the Lyriq, bringing the launch up to nine months ahead of schedule and working in parallel to convert the plant and start production,” Reuss says. “This is an important proof point in our path to EV leadership as we introduce more high-volume EVs across price points and lifestyles.”

With full-scale production on the horizon, customers can expect deliveries of the Cadillac Lyriq to begin in a few months. The luxury electric crossover entered its final development stage a few months ago and test vehicles have recently been spied undergoing over-the-road testing

The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq rides on the all-new BEV3 platform and features rear wheel drive and a 100.4 kWh lithium-ion Ultium battery pack and a single Ultium Drive motor mounted on the rear axle. Cadillac estimates this setup will provide 300 miles of driving range on a full charge. As of this writing, that’s the only powertrain configuration available, but more options, including all-wheel-drive and more power, are expected in the future.
