The Cadillac Lyriq Weighs Nearly As Much As An Escalade

The all-new Cadillac Lyriq luxury crossover is the marque’s first fully-electric vehicle, boasting head-turning exterior styling and cutting-edge technology. However, the all-electric drivetrain coupled with top-of-the-line luxury means there’s a lot of weight riding on the chassis, making the Cadillac Lyriq shockingly heavy for its size.

Specifications for the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq reveal it weighs in at 5,610 pounds (2,545 kilograms). This puts it in the same weight class as the 2021 Cadillac Escalade full-size SUV, which tips the scales at 5,635 pounds (2,556 kilograms) when equipped with 2WD. The Lyriq is also considerably heavier than the similarly-sized Cadillac XT5 (3,915 pounds / 1,776 kilograms) and the Cadillac XT6 (4,362 pounds / 1,979 kilograms).

Model Base Curb Weight (lbs. / kg)
2021 Cadillac CT5 RWD 3,659 / 1,660
2021 Cadillac CT5-V RWD 3,974 / 1,803
2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing 4,123 / 1,870
2021 Cadillac Escalade 2WD 5,635 / 2,556
2021 Cadillac Escalade Diesel 2WD 5,827 / 2,643
2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV 2WD 5,785 / 2,624
2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV Diesel 2WD 5,974 / 2,710
2023 Cadillac Lyriq 5,610 / 2,545
2021 Cadillac XT5 FWD 3,915 / 1,776
2021 Cadillac XT6 FWD 4,362 / 1,979

Take into consideration the Cadillac Lyriq’s exterior dimensions (196.7-inch overall length, 77.8-inch overall width. 63.9-inch overall height), and the all-new electric vehicle may seem cumbersome, especially when compared to the 2021 Cadillac Escalade (212-inch overall length, 81-inch overall width, 77-inch overall height).

While the Cadillac Lyriq is on the heavier side, it is right on par with the weight of several competing EV crossovers, which seem to be saddled with similarly weighty drivetrains. The 2021 Audi e-tron has a curb weight of 5,754 pounds (2,610 kilograms), and the 2021 Tesla Model X weighs in at 5,185 pounds (3,252 kilograms).

Model Curb Weight (lbs. / kg)
2021 Audi e-tron 5,754 / 2,610
2023 Cadillac Lyriq 5,610 / 2,545
2021 Jaguar I-PACE 4,784 / 2,211
2021 Polestar 2 4,680 / 2,123
2021 Tesla Model X 5,185 / 2,352
2021 Tesla Model Y 4,416 / 2,003

The Cadillac Lyriq’s 100-kWh Ultium lithium-ion battery pack is largely to blame for the vehicle’s heaviness on the scale, but its drivetrain is quite potent and more than makes up for the heft. In the Lyriq, the single Ultium Drive permanent magnet electric motor produces 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque and has an estimated driving range of 300 miles.

The Lyriq charges extremely quickly via a DC Fast Charge, netting 76 miles of range in a 10-minute charge. Charging from a 19.2 kW AC outlet at home results in an impressive 52 miles of range per hour.

  2. When will we know the prices of the extras? And what can you get in the car?

  3. The Audi comes standard w/ AWD. When the AWD LYRIQ debuts, the LYRIQ will be heavier than the Audi’s.

But regardless, I think both the Audi and Cadillac will lead sales for EVs IMO. Both vehicles are gorgeous.
