2021 Escalade Diesel Production Has Started

Production of the all-new 2021 Cadillac Escalade diesel is now officially underway. While production of customer-bound 2021 Escalade models powered by the standard gasoline V8 began last year, production of models equipped with the optional diesel powerplant is ramping up now.

For those who may be unaware, the 2021 Cadillac Escalade is offered as standard with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 (production code L87) gasoline engine, which is rated at 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm. Alternatively, buyers can elect for the turbodiesel 3.0L I6 (production code LM2) as a no cost option for all trim levels. The diesel engine option is a new addition for the 2021 model year, and is rated at 277 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm. Both engines mate to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2021 Escalade diesel offers substantially improved fuel economy over the standard gasoline engine. According to the EPA, the Escalade diesel returns 21 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined, with an estimated annual fuel cost of $1,550. By comparison, gasoline-powered 2021 Escalade models return 15 mpg in the city, 20 mpg on the highway, and 17 mpg combined, with an estimated annual fuel cost of $2,450. Both ratings are for 2WD models.

The 2021 Cadillac Escalade is produced in Arlington, Texas. Under the skin, the latest Escalade rides on the T1 platform, a new architecture that enables the SUV to utilize an independent rear suspension setup. Inside, the 2021 Escalade features a new 38-inch curved OLED display mounted across the dash, which provides both passenger infotainment and information for the driver. The new Escalade also features the latest tech goodies, including Super Cruise, a semi-autonomous driver assist system that allows the driver to remove their hands from the steering wheel during extended highway driving.
