In April 2020, Cadillac officially launched the CT4 in China as its first compact sedan in the market country – which, in addition to being the world’s largest automotive market, also represents the luxury marque’s largest market by sales volume. Now, the Cadillac CT4 has just gained a new version that completes the model lineup in China and increases its level of competitiveness in that market.
The new model in question is a new trim level called Luxury Fashion Edition, which is positioned between the base Luxury trim and the top-of-the-line Sport trim. In doing so, Cadillac adds a distinctive third trim level for the second model year of the CT4 to better capture the interest of a new generation of customers.
Market | Base | More Luxurious | Sporty | High Performance | Ultra High Performance |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
USA/Canada: | Luxury | Premium Luxury | Sport* | V-Series | V-Series Blackwing |
China: | Luxury | Luxury Fashion Edition | Sport | - | - |

“The CT4 is the youngest member of our Cadillac lineup, and its unique rear-wheel-drive structure makes it special in its segment,” said Vice President of Cadillac in China, Felix Weller, in a press release. “With the additional variant, which has even more to offer, we are confident the CT4 will attract new buyers who may have been considering the model,” he added.
The new mid-range Luxury Fashion Edition version of the 2021 Cadillac CT4 is roughly equivalent to the Premium Luxury trim level offered in the U.S. and Canada. It’s primarily characterized by refined styling with high-gloss finishes and a wide array of comfort-oriented features. That’s in contrast to the more rudimentary appearance of the base version of the CT4 in China and the more aggressive-looking Sport trim.
Although the marque curiously did not provide any images of the new trim, it did state that the 2021 Cadillac CT4 Luxury Fashion Edition has the jewel-shaped grille that distinguishes the Luxury trim from its Sport counterpart, as well as multiple shiny chrome elements around the bodywork that give the vehicle a more luxurious feel. As such, the elegant trim level is officially introduced on the Chinese-made CT4.
On a mechanical level, all three trim levels of the 2021 Cadillac CT4 are offered in the Chinese market exclusively with the familiar turbocharged 2.0L LSY I-4 engine, the same motor that powers each Cadillac vehicle sold in that country. The boosted four-pot develops a maximum of 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The 8-speed automatic transmission is the only gearbox offered in the vehicle.
The 2021 Cadillac CT4 is now available for sale across the brand’s Chinese dealer network. The model is assembled at the Jinqiao Cadillac plant in Shanghai, the same facility that assembles the remaining models in the brand’s portfolio. Since its official introduction at the beginning of last year, the CT4 has managed to gradually increase its sales volume and recognition as the only rear-wheel drive sedan in its segment in China.
