Cadillac CT5 Sport To Launch In Japan In 2021

The Cadillac CT5 Sport combines the classy refinement of a luxury model with the excitement of a performance sedan. Now, Caddy will bring that winning combo to Japan with a planned launch in 2021.

For the moment, the only passenger car for sale on Cadillac Japan’s website is the Cadillac CT6 sedan. Now, though, it appears as though the Cadillac CT5 Sport will join the lineup next year.

The Cadillac CT5 Sport is the only model from the CT5 model cadence announced for the Japanese market thus far. It has not yet been announced if the base-model Cadillac CT5 Luxury, Cadillac CT5 Premium Luxury, Cadillac CT5-V, or the forthcoming Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing super sedan will be sold in Japan as well.

The Cadillac CT5 Sport is differentiated from the base-level Luxury and mid-range Premium Luxury thanks to its unique front and rear styling treatments, 19-inch alloy wheels, glossy black exterior trim, and more-aggressive details. The standard spec includes the turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine (production code LSY) which doles out 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The optional engine on offer is the twin-turbo 3.0L V6 (production code LGY), which produces 335 horsepower and 400 pound-feet torque.

It’s currently unclear which engine will be offered in Japan, and what the specs will be. However, it appears as though the Japanese-spec Cadillac CT5 Sport will come with Cadillac’s fourth-generation Magnetic Ride Control technology, with upwards of 45-percent faster damping response, making it the quickest-reacting suspension technology in the world. Caddy’s Magnetic Ride Control system allows for greater vehicle control and sharper handling, while still isolating road imperfections and offering a smooth ride. The system achieves this via electromagnets and magnetorheological fluid within the shock absorber, all of which allows the system to continually adjust the damping rate to match the conditions nearly instantaneously.
