Cadillac CT5 Officially Launched In China

The Cadillac CT5 has officially launched in the Chinese market after making its regional debut at the 2019 Chengdu Motor Show earlier this year.

Cadillac says the sedan will be offered in six different exterior colors and eight different interior colors in China and in both Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels – as per the automaker’s Y-trim level strategy for its new vehicles.

The sedan will also be offered exclusively with the  turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (production code LSY) in China, which is rated at 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to Cadillac’s new 10-speed automatic transmission and sends power to the rear wheels. Chinese customers can also order the CT5 with optional AWD.

Cadillac has not indicated if it will eventually offer the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine (production code LGY) in the CT5 in the country, though we have no reason to believe it will.

In a statement, Cadillac said the CT5 “is joining the CT6 and upcoming CT4 to create a New American luxury rear-wheel-drive sedan family for car buyers across China.” As we reported previously, the Cadillac ATS-L and Cadillac XTS will eventually be discontinued in the region to make way for the next-generation of Cadillac sedans, though they remain in production at Cadillac’s Jinqiao plant in China for the time being.

Production of the Chinese-market CT5 will also take place at the Cadillac Jinqiao plant, which is located just outside of Shanghai. For reference, the Cadillac CT5 for North America will be produced at the Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan.

The base Cadillac CT5 will cost RMB 279,700 in China, which is equivalent to exactly $39,800 USD at current exchange rates. The range-topping Premium Luxury model, meanwhile, will start at 339,700 RMB – equivalent to about $48,338 USD. It is now available to order at Cadillac’s 300 plus retail stores in China.
