The refreshed Cadillac CT6 has been introduced in Japan. Though the 2019 CT6 was first announced well over a year ago at the 2018 New York International Auto Show in April 2018, the updated large sedan arrived in Japan at the very end of the second quarter of 2019, and it features a market-exclusive configuration.
Interestingly, the refreshed Cadillac CT6 for Japan has a unique appearance that does not follow Cadillac’s “Y” trim level strategy that the brand adopted. Instead, the version that’s being sold in Japan wears most of the styling features of the range-topping Platinum trim, while also getting black window trim (otherwise known as Daylight Opening trim, or DLO trim) that’s unique to the Sport trim level. Coincidentally, the CT6 deletes the Sport trim level for the 2020 model year in North America.
Another major difference on the refreshed Cadillac CT6 for Japan in relation to other markets is in the powertrain department. The large sedan is available exclusively with the naturally-aspirated 3.6L V6 engine (production code LGX) making a maximum of 335 horsepower and 285 pound-feet of torque. The atmospheric motor is mated to the 10-speed automatic transmission and AWD as standard.
In addition to the full list of technologies that the Platinum trim level typically features (except for Super Cruise), the refreshed Cadillac CT6 units bound for Japan market are equipped with a unique cloud-based navigation system called Cloud Streaming Navi. The system was developed in conjunction with Japan’s leading mapping company, Zenrin Datacom, and is compatible with the autonomous navigation DR map.
This service provides access to cloud navigation from a server to a device via a set of antennas installed in the vehicle by a Cadillac dealer. The system provides exclusive maps and traffic information through a 4G network, and is subject to a usage fee.
The refreshed Cadillac CT6 has been rolling out across the Cadillac dealer network in Japan since the final days of the second quarter of 2019. It carries a suggested retail price of 10,260,000 Japanese Yen, or around $94,272 USD at current exchange rates. Like all other Cadillac models currently offered in Japan, the CT6 is not offered in right-hand drive that’s the norm for the Japanese domestic market.
