Shortly after revealing the 2020 Cadillac XT6 three-row crossover ahead of the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Wreath and Crest brand the luxury car brand has revealed its first electric vehicle (EV). The announcement was quite the surprise, since (almost) nobody expected the announcement.
From what we were able to see during the presentation in Detroit, the future Cadillac EV is a midsize crossover with two rows of seating for four or five passengers.
“Cadillac’s EV will hit the heart of the crossover market and meet the needs of customers around the world,” recently-appointed Cadillac president, Steve Carlisle, was quoted as saying in a press release. “It will represent the height of luxury and innovation while positioning Cadillac as the pinnacle of mobility.”
The name and additional details of the new Cadillac EV will be revealed closer to its launch. However, Cadillac did say that the vehicle is part of its aggressive product acceleration, which was announced during an investors conference on Friday, January 11th, 2018.
During the conference, Cadillac also briefly discussed the future Escalade as well as an upcoming performance sedan. A day later, it revealed the XT6 crossover SUV.
Overall, Cadillac will introduce new models at the rate of “roughly one every six months through 2021.”
This new Cadillac EV crossover will be based on a new EV platform being developed by its parent. The architecture will be capable of supporting a wide variety of body styles.
In addition, the vehicles will be capable of being front-, rear- or all-wheel drive, and the output of their electric motors and battery systems will be capable of being adjusted based on vehicle characteristics, as needed.
March 2020: as we’ve come to learn a year after the debut of this unnamed Cadillac EV crossover, this concept foreshadows the upcoming Cadillac Lyriq electric crossover.
