Having launched in China and in the United States, the 2020 Cadillac XT5 refresh has begun to reach the luxury brand’s various secondary markets during the fourth quarter of the year. One of these is Mexico, as Cadillac has announced that the refreshed midsize crossover is now available for sale in Mexico, thereby becoming the third country to receive the updated 2020 Cadillac XT5.
“Cadillac XT5 arrived in Mexico as a 2017 model year and by 2020 it presents a very attractive midcycle refresh,” said Yammil Guaida, Marketing Manager for Cadillac in Mexico. “This crossover is in the most important and competitive segment of the luxury industry and we are sure that our clients will be surprised with this model year,” Guaida concluded.
Notably, Cadillac launched the refreshed XT5 in Mexico ahead of Canada.
The 2020 Cadillac XT5 comes to Mexico in Luxury and Sport trim levels, both of which are new for the vehicle. As such, the model adopts Cadillac Y trim level strategy. However, the 2020 Cadillac XT5 refresh does not adopt the Y strategy completely, since the vehicle is missing the Premium Luxury trim. No matter, the 2020 Cadillac XT5 still offers distinct personality between the two trims, with the objective that customers choose the appearance that best suits their tastes and lifestyle.
As with all models of the brand, the 2020 Cadillac XT5 Luxury models feature an updated front end. The vehicle is defined by decorative moldings with chrome accents, a new 20-inch wheel design, and tail lights with a red lens. The elements deliver a traditional and elegant appearance. By comparison, the 2020 Cadillac XT5 Sport has a more sporting appearance, with a grille finished in shiny black, wheels with a sporty design, and rear lights with transparent (neutral density) lenses.
Inside, the trim levels 2020 Cadillac XT5 are distinguished by decorative finishes and the cabin color combination. As such, the XT5 Luxury maintains wood inserts with Maple Sugar with Jet Black color combination while the XT5 Sport features carbon fiber inserts and two new color combinations. Though both feature a rich level of technological and safety equipment, the Sport finish is more complete.
In Mexico, the refreshed Cadillac XT5 is only available with the naturally-aspirated 3.6L V6 (production code LGX), which makes 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. The motor is mated to the new nine-speed automatic transmission controlled via an updated Electronic Precision Shift gear selector. The engine availability is notably different from that of the U.S.-market XT5, which comes standard with the turbo-charged 2.0L I4 engine (production code LSY) while offering the 3.6L LGX as an option.
The mechanical difference between the Luxury and Sport trims in Mexico is that the Sport model features a Twin-Clutch AWD system along with Adaptive Ride Control suspension system, allowing it to deliver a more dynamic driving experience.
The first units of the 2020 Cadillac XT5 refresh went on sale in the second half of October 2019 in Mexico, with the following starting prices:
- Cadillac XT5 Luxury: $893,400 pesos ($45,450 USD)
- Cadillac XT5 Sport: $1,038,000 pesos ($52,800 USD)
