Fix Released For Cadillac Lyriq 12-Volt Battery Drain Issue

Several owners have written in to Cadillac Society to tell us about botched over-the-air (OTA) updates affecting the Cadillac Lyriq. What happens is that the vehicle’s infotainment system is “left hanging” after an OTA update, thereby draining the 12-volt battery in the process. The good news is there’s a fix, as the luxury marque recently released a new Customer Satisfaction Program to remedy the issue and prevent the Lyriq’s 12-volt system from going down as a result of the faulty OTA updates.

Tagged with bulletin number N232416980, this Customer Satisfaction Program applies to the 2023 and 2024 model year Cadillac Lyriq.

Cadillac notes that the 12-volt system drain issue is not related to the OTA updates themselves, but rather a glitch that may occur during these updates. The glitch in question can leave the system hanging, causing the vehicle to “stay awake”, thereby draining the 12-volt battery. The Customer Satisfaction Program states that certain units of the 2023 and 2024 Cadillac Lyriq are susceptible to having the 12-volt battery discharge almost completely, or may be at an increased risk of accelerated discharged.

To fix the issue, dealership technicians are instructed to disconnect and reconnect the 12-volt battery, then to reprogram the serial data gateway.  It’s worth noting that Cadillac dealers who have met the EV Readiness Requirements are the only service centers capable of performing this service, and the technician must have successfully completed the required training.

Prior to this Customer Satisfaction Program, the luxury marque stated that it was aware of the 12-volt battery drain issue in the Cadillac Lyriq, and that it was investigating the problem.

“Our engineering team is working to learn more about and diagnose the issue to minimize any further potential impact to Lyriq customers,” a Cadillac spokesperson told Cadillac Society in a statement. “As part of regular vehicle care, Cadillac recommends Lyriq customers keep their vehicles charged to a minimum of 20 percent High Voltage state-of-charge (SOC) and plug their vehicles in to their home charging unit overnight to help maintain 12V battery health.”

We’ll bring you more details on the Cadillac Lyriq as soon as we get them. Until then, be sure to subscribe to Cadillac Society for Cadillac Lyriq news and to-the-minute Cadillac news coverage. We also invite you to join the latest discussions in our Cadillac forums and Cadillac Lyriq forum.
