Artist Renders 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Speedster

The Cadillac Eldorado conjures images of lumbering land boats, but one automotive designer undertook the challenge of creating a speedster out of a 1959 Eldorado, “a weird idea” that he came up with quite some time ago finally brought to life via digital art.

Digital artist and friend of Cadillac Society, Abimelec Arellano, posted the Eldorado speedster mockup to his Instagram page recently, outlining the amalgamation of borrowed parts that helped bring the quirky vehicle to life. He says he found his muse in vehicles such as the custom, bulbous Outlaw Porsches, the Carrera Panamericana race cars, and the original Porsche 356 speedster.

The imaginary 1959 Cadillac Eldorado drop-top features some modifications over its real-life counterpart. It’s been lowered for better roadholding and “canyon carving,” as the artist puts it. It’s also been turned into a two-passenger setup, and the A-pillars have been removed, replaced with a one-piece curved glass windshield. The rear wheel wells have a higher cut as well, and the front bumper has been “cut up” and slimmed to reduce front overhang. Of course, this does little to detract from the Eldorado’s stunning chrome bumper.

Under the hood, this Cadillac Eldorado mockup boasts a 632 Chevy big block crate engine with individual throttle bodies (ITB). The driver of the make-believe Eldorado controls the vehicle with a steering wheel borrowed from the 1969 Chevy Corvette, and is cradled by RECARO Ergomed seats for maximum comfort.

The Porsche inspiration is carried through to the Eldorado speedster’s paint scheme, which is a shade of pink similar to Porsche Ruby Red. It compliments the tan interior quite well, while providing a nice contrast between the body color and the chrome accents.
