When it launches in the next few weeks, the 2019 Cadillac XT4 will be the first Cadillac ever to use Electro-Hydraulic Braking Assist technology.
Colloquially known as the electronic brake booster and already used by other automakers, Electro-Hydraulic Braking Assist replaces the XT4’s traditional vacuum-assisted power braking system with an electro-hydraulic setup. The result is improved fuel economy derived from the electronic actuator, which eliminates the need to pull vacuum from the engine/manifold. The system also takes up less space under the hood.
Cadillac has not disclosed the exact efficiency gains derived from using EHBA in the XT4, and we imagine them to be minimal. However, it’s worth mentioning that the electro-hydraulic system is capable of functioning without the engine running, which is particularly useful in energized vehicles such as hybrids and plug-in hybrids.
In other words, EHBA makes it that much easier to electrify the Cadillac XT4, perhaps foreshadowing an upcoming hybrid or PHEV variant of the compact crossover.
One of four new colors for the 2025 model year.
And it now represents the best value in its segment.
A curious sighting from a video of the Cadillac design studio.
