I can drive my 2011 CTS with 3.0 engine for maybe a week, then the temp gauge whams all the way to the top and the bells go off. I park, turn it off for about three or four minutes and when I start it, the temp gage drops to normal and I can drive it again. this might happen in a week or it might happen every two blocks. My first thought was the temp sensor, so i changed it with a new Delco sensor, no help. I then thought, Original hoses, maybe one is collapsing. Two new hoses and a radiator flush, no help. I then thought about a new radiator cap, so I changed it. I really thought that was it because it behaved for over a week, but then it happened again, this time was just as I was getting home and I stopped at my drive and saw a stream of coolant on the ground for about 50 ft. I drove up the driveway and stopped, no coolant on the ground, but I could hear boiling inside the fill bottle.
Can a thermostat open, then close while driving, then open again in a few minutes, then close again?
I’m at a loss for new ideas. Has anyone had this problem, and what was the cure?
