Cadillac Society has learned that the 2023 Cadillac Escalade has become the latest victim of ongoing supplier and production constraints, with the Heavy Duty Trailering Package is currently unavailable to order on the full-size luxury SUV.
The Heavy Duty Trailering Package (production code ZM1) is normally offered on the 2023 Cadillac Escalade Premium Luxury, Sport, Premium Luxury Platinum, Sport Platinum and Escalade-V trims. It is not offered at all on the base Luxury trim. The package includes the following content (relevant production codes listed in parentheses):
- Auxiliary trailer camera, LPO (TRO)
- Two-speed electronic transfer case, four-wheel-drive models only, excluding Escalade-V (NQH)
- Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring System (PTT)
- Trailering Assist Guidelines (THS)
- Extra-capacity cooling system, for 6.2L V8 engine only (V03)
The Heavy Duty Trailering Package costs $600 across all trim levels with on it is available. However, in order to add the package to the 2023 Cadillac Escalade Premium Luxury, the $2,700 Performance Package must also be selected. At this time, it’s not clear what caused the package to become unavailable, or when it could become available again.
The Heavy Duty Trailering Package grants the 2023 Cadillac Escalade the ability to safely tow 500 pounds more than an Escalade that does not have the package. Models that have the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 gasoline engine (production code L87) rated at 420 horsepower and 460 foot-pounds of torque under the hood are able to tow 7,500 pounds without the package, and 8,000 pounds with the package for rear-wheel-drive models. Four-wheel-drive models can tow 7,300 pounds without the package and 7,800 pounds with the package.
For models with the turbodiesel 3.0L I6 (production code LM2) rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, towing capacity remains the same with or without the Heavy Duty Trailering Package. For rear-wheel-drive models with the diesel engine, the max towing limit is 7,900 pounds, while four-wheel-drive models can tow 7,700 pounds. The ultra-high-performance Cadillac Escalade-V, meanwhile, has a maximum towing capacity of 7,000 pounds.
