2023 Cadillac Lyriq Rear Pedestrian Alert Will Be Added Through Over-The-Air Update

2023 Cadillac Lyriq Rear Pedestrian Alert Will Be Added Through Over-The-Air Update

The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq will feature Rear Pedestrian Alert technology to help warn drivers of pedestrians crossing behind the vehicle while backing. However, Cadillac Society learned that the technology will not be functional when the vehicle goes on sale, and will instead be added as an over-the-air (OTA) update.

Rear Pedestrian Alert (production code UKK) is included as standard across all 2023 Cadillac Lyriq trim levels, including Debut Edition, Luxury RWD and Luxury AWD models. The luxury electric crossover will ship from the factory with all the hardware necessary for Rear Pedestrian Alert to work, but it will not be operational until the OTA update arrives later this year. At this time, it’s not clear why the feature will be inoperable until the OTA update is applied, or when that update will become available.

As previously reported by Cadillac Society, Rear Pedestrian Alert is not the only technology that will not be functional in the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq at launch. The Surround Vision feature and its Surround Vision Recorder companion will also require a software update in order to work, along with the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist technology. Both of these features are standard equipment across all 2023 Cadillac Lyriq trim levels.

As a reminder, the Lyriq Debut Edition features a single Ultium Drive motor situated on the rear axle for a rear-wheel-drive setup, capable of 340 horsepower and 324 pound-feet of torque. The 100.4 kW battery pack is capable of an estimated 312 miles from a full charge. The upcoming Lyriq Luxury RWD model utilizes the same driveline, while the Luxury AWD models feature a second motor on the front axle, good for 524 horsepower and a driving range of 287 miles.

Production of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq recently began at the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.

  1. The only O-T-A add on most debut Lyriq buyers are interested in is the tires Over-The-Asphalt!… and that $5000 discount offered to 2023 customers will barely cover the excess fuel used for the past 10 months!!
