2019 Cadillac XT4: We ‘Fix’ The Front Fascia Of Cadillac’s Compact CUV

When the 2019 Cadillac XT4 debuted at the New York International Auto Show, arguably the biggest complaint about the vehicle was the treatment of the front clip.

Specifically, (some of) the critics were all up in arms that the lower part of the XT4’s front bumper cover is a black plastic hue, rather than being painted the color of the vehicle. So it was only natural that we set out to address that very grievance in the latest Cadillac Society rendering. Using a photo of the XT4 that we took during the New York Auto Show, we painted the front clip to match the Autumn Metallic primary exterior color that adorns the rest of the vehicle in the image.

Without tooting our own horn too much, we must say that we do like how the 2019 XT4 looks with the lower front clip finished to match the rest of the vehicle, rather than left black – as in the production model.

  1. I agree your version is much better—–But how do you get GM management to make the change?—The black part must already be in the production pipeline—-

    • Thanks George!

That’s a good question. The only thing we can hope for at this point is that a model year changeover will address the situation (from 19 to 20, for instance). For now, it will launch with the black piece in place… but it’s not a difficult change to make.

      • Why stop with just the front. Give us views on all sides with the body color instead of the blacked out version. IMO the Luxury Premium would serve better with the body color all around. The Sport should just have the black out. Also it would be nice to allow the adaptive suspension on the LP as well.

  3. Not only does it look better, the black cladding around the side of the vehicle and below the rear bumper should be painted as well, similar to what was done with the new Denali version of the Terrain vs. the other trim levels.

  4. Your rendition with the front fascia painted is better looking. I would buy one. But not the production model with the black.

  5. Consider giving us views on all sides of the body color replacing the black out version. IMHO the Premium Luxury edition would look better in body color all around. Leave the blacked out version for just Lux and Sport. Also it would be a plus to move the adjustable suspension to the Premium as well.

  6. Yes… thats exactly what needs to be done. If nothing else at least offer it as an option. I wonder if any GM people keep an eye on any of these forums and take notes?

  7. Body color on just the few inches between the upper and lower grilles would be a big improvement. Or a medium gray with the lighter paint colors.

Maybe they’ll do that in futures years, as they did with the Buick Rendezvous, which started the body color on the Ultra model before all of them.

  8. XT4 seems to be on par with Volvo XC40 in styling and size. Both have black trim which is what their target customers prefer (millenials and Gen X). This group is not wanting CT6 styling or flash.

    • The XT4 (181 inches in length) is an entire size class larger than the XC40 (174 inches). The XC60 (184 inches) is right about the size of the XT4… and the only reason the Volvo is longer is that they artificial stretched the cowl/dash-to-axle space to give it better-looking proportions.

  9. I agree that the painted version you did looks a lot better.

  10. My wife and I are planning to check out the XT4 when it is available and I think the lower paint is what should have been done in the first place. If we do decide to purchase one I will inquire see if that could be done.
