2021 Cadillac XT5 And XT6 Go Into Production

Production of the 2021 Cadillac XT5 and XT6 crossovers is now underway in the United States.

Sources within Cadillac’s production network tell Cadillac Society that production of the 2021 model year XT5 and XT6 commenced on Wednesday, August 26th, 2020 at the Spring Hill facility in Tennessee.

Both models will see a few updates for 2021, though the changes will be relatively minor – since the 2021 model year represents model year changeovers, rather than refreshes or all-new models. In fact, the XT5 already received a midcycle enhancement (aka refresh) for the 2020 model year, while the XT6 was all-new for the 2020 model year.

In the case of the 2021 Cadillac XT5, the midsize luxury CUV will gain two new exterior colors as well as standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto across all trim levels, among a few other minor changes.

In the case of the XT6, the three-row, “midsize-plus” CUV will gain a new base trim level called Luxury with the turbocharge 2.0L I-4 engine. Like the XT5, the 2021 Cadillac XT6 will gain standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with two new exterior colors.

Both the XT5 and XT6 ride on the C1 platform, with the former offering two rows of seating for five occupants, while the latter offers three rows of seating for either six or seven passengers. As of the 2020 model year for the XT5 and 2021 model year for the XT6, the duo features the turbocharged 2.0L I-4 gasoline engine (production code LSY) on lower-end trims, and the naturally-aspirated 3.6L V-6 gasoline engine (production code LGX) on higher-end models. The turbo four is rated at 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while the atmospheric six makes 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. Both engines mate to a new, nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel-drive is standard, while all-wheel-drive is optional.

We will outline the complete changes for the 2021 model year Cadillac XT5 and XT6 shortly. In the meantime, we invite you to subscribe to Cadillac Society for more Cadillac XT5 news and Cadillac XT6 news, as well as around-the-clock Cadillac news coverage.
