Cadillac’s Upcoming Electric Escalade Will Offer 400 Miles Of Range

Cadillac’s Upcoming Electric Escalade Will Offer 400 Miles Of Range

Last year, we reported that the upcoming fifth-generation Cadillac Escalade would offer no less than three different powerplant options, one of which is a high-performance model. And now, we’re getting new details about another powertrain option – the new electric Escalade. That’s right, the Escalade is going EV, and when it drops, it’ll offer upwards of 400 miles of range.

This latest tidbit of info on the new electric Escalade comes to us courtesy of sources familiar with future Cadillac product plans, who spoke to Cadillac Society on the basis of anonymity.

The forthcoming electric Escalade is not expected to launch with the introduction of the new fifth-generation model, which is currently slated for a debut for the 2021 model year. Rather, the electron-driven variant will likely show its face sometime later in the fifth-gen Escalade product lifecycle.

This is certainly exciting news for those Caddy fans looking forward to the brand’s transition to becoming the tech and EV leader for Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors. What’s more, with a full-fledged electric Escalade in the lineup, Cadillac will have a direct competitor for the much-vaunted Tesla Model X.

Speaking of Tesla, the California brand’s top-trim SUV model currently offers upwards of 325 miles per charge. However, by the time the electric Escalade makes the scene, Tesla might upgrade the range in a a refreshed Model X.

Further competitive features for the battery-powered Escalade should include the latest iteration of Super Cruise, Cadillac’s semi-autonomous hands-free driver assist system. And without a big lump of internal combustion under the hood, we would expect the electric Escalade to also offer a quieter ride with significantly reduced levels of NVH (noise/vibration/harness) compared to the gas-only variants.

Rest assured, we’ll keep our eyes peeled for any further developments with regard to the upcoming electric Escalade, but in the meantime, make sure to subscribe to Cadillac Society for more Cadillac Escalade news and around-the-clock Cadillac news coverage.

  1. Well, so much for range anxiety. Though it mau not be the best for a road trip.
The time and equipment needed to recharge will also be an issue. Still, it truly is incredible that an enormous BOF Suv will be using no fuel and going 400 miles on a charge.

    • Reckon this is with HVAC, headlights, heated or cool seats on with the Sound System on? Bet not. The real world calculus with those options on may cut the 400 mile range in half.

  2. Add autonomous parking and retrieval, and future Escalade owners will never need a driver/chauffeur or pay for valet services!

  3. Concerned about the aero. EV’s need aero in the minimum range of CD-24 to 28.

Ever greater range and faster charging will bring the public around to EV’s.
Not to mention much more powerful weather events and dramatically changing weather regimes

    Can’t happen soon enough.

  4. Maybe they’ll shock the world with a ‘coupe’ roof and lowered significantly on the longer wheelbase? Maybe it’ll be a retractable hardtop convertible. Probably not, but if it sits on the high end for price, they have a shot to do something special. Take the idea with a grain of salt, no one in my circles is buying at that level.

  5. Has GM announced the kW rating for their charge network subsidiary/spin-off? Above 350?

    • Doesn’t matter. This will use CCS and there are already tonnes of 350KW stations that this vehicle can use.

  6. Exciting as I am ready for a New Escalade ESV Platinum but want an Electric and right now the only one that I have been considering is Rivian SUV. If GM can get this out in 2021 as a 2022 model, they will keep my business.
GM needs to role out BEV3 faster throughout the whole Cadillac Family of auto’s with Supercruise on top of using BEV2 to optimize Chevrolet, Buick and GMC Sales.
